PERICLES Deliverable 4.3:Content Semantics and Use Context Analysis Techniques

The current deliverable summarises the work conducted within task T4.3 of WP4, focusing on the extraction and the subsequent analysis of semantic information from digital content, which is imperative for its preservability. More specifically, the deliverable defines content semantic information from a visual and textual perspective, explains how this information can be exploited in long-term digital preservation and proposes novel approaches for extracting this information in a scalable manner. Additionally, the deliverable discusses novel techniques for retrieving and analysing the context of use of digital objects. Although this topic has not been extensively studied by existing literature, we believe use context is vital in augmenting the semantic information and maintaining the usability and preservability of the digital objects, as well as their ability to be accurately interpreted as initially intended.PERICLE

Fab4 Browser

The fab4 browser builds on the digital object model provided by Multivalent, and extends it to support distributed annotations and new media types. The software supports long term preservation of digital object by enabling access to the functionalities (presentation and interactivity) of the original digital objects in a pure virtual machine environment. This software has been developed at the University of Liverpool and supported by different projects, including the JISC VRE programme; and the SHAMAN and Presto Prime FP7 EU projects

PERICLES Extraction Tool

The PERICLES Extraction Tool (PET) is an open source (Apache 2 licensed) Java software for the extraction of significant information from the environment where digital objects are created and modified. This information supports object use and reuse, e.g. for a better long-term preservation of data. EC project "SPREAD - Sustainable Lifestyles 2050 Deliverable 3.1: "Visual material presenting emerging best practices and emerging visions on sustainable lifestyles"

Visual materials presenting emerging promising practices and emerging visions of sustainable lifestyles have been created by the EU FP7 project SPREAD Sustainable Lifestyles 2050. This document (Deliverable 3.1.) presents outcomes of the project’s research on promising practice, for more sustainable ways of living, existing across Europe today. In addition, this document shares a selection of future visions; visualized ideas of possible sustainable living options that are not yet present in Europe but that aim to help us to imagine what today’s promising practices could look like if projected into different contexts sometime in the future (Work Package 3 “Workshop series II: Envisioning the new sustainable lifestyles and their enabling factors”). These visions of possible sustainable living practice of the future prepare the project for the development of its scenarios for sustainable lifestyle futures 2050
